چکیده

We present a well-balanced nodal discontinuous Galerkin (DG) scheme for compressible Euler equations with gravity. The DG scheme makes use of discontinuous Lagrange basis functions supported at GaussLobatto-Legendre (GLL) nodes together with GLL quadrature using the same nodes. The well-balanced property is achieved by a specific form of source term discretization that depends on the nature of the hydrostatic solution, together with the GLL nodes for quadrature of the source term. The scheme is able to preserve isothermal and polytropic stationary solutions upto machine precision on any mesh composed of quadrilateral cells and for any gravitational potential. It is applied on several examples to demonstrate its well-balanced property and the improved resolution of small perturbations around the stationary solution.

Positivity-preserving high order discontinuous Galerkin schemes for compressible Euler equations with source terms

In [16, 17], we constructed uniformly high order accurate discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes which preserve positivity of density and pressure for the Euler equations of compressible gas dynamics with the ideal gas equation of state. The technique also applies to high order accurate finite volume schemes. For the Euler equations with various source terms (e.g., gravity and chemical reactions),...

An entropy stable nodal discontinuous Galerkin method for the two dimensional shallow water equations on unstructured curvilinear meshes with discontinuous bathymetry

We design an arbitrary high order accurate nodal discontinuous Galerkin spectral element approximation for the nonlinear two dimensional shallow water equations with non-constant, possibly discontinuous, bathymetry on unstructured, possibly curved, quadrilateral meshes. The scheme is derived from a skew-symmetric formulation of the continuous problem. We prove that this discretisation exactly p...

Well-balanced r-adaptive and moving mesh space-time discontinuous Galerkin method for the shallow water equations

In this article we introduce a well-balanced discontinuous Galerkin method for the shallow water equations on moving meshes. Particular emphasis will be given on r-adaptation in which mesh points of an initially uniform mesh move to concentrate in regions where interesting behaviour of the solution is observed. Obtaining well-balanced numerical schemes for the shallow water equations on fixed m...

A Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin Method for the Compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes Equations

In this paper, we present a Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) method for the solution of the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. The method is devised by using the discontinuous Galerkin approximation with a special choice of the numerical fluxes and weakly imposing the continuity of the normal component of the numerical fluxes across the element interfaces. This allows the ...

Discontinuous Galerkin methods on graphics processing units for nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws

We present a novel implementation of the modal discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for hyperbolic conservation laws in two dimensions on graphics processing units (GPUs) using NVIDIA’s Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). Both flexible and highly accurate, DG methods accommodate parallel architectures well as their discontinuous nature produces element-local approximations. High performan...
